Give your wearable projects the ability to react to their environment! The LilyPad Light Sensor is a sewable breakout board with a built-in ALS-PT19 sensor that outputs a variable analog voltage based on ambient light. To use the light sensor connect it to a LilyPad Arduino or other microcontroller to read the sensor values and use them in your code.The LilyPad Light Sensor outputs voltage between 0V and 3.3V depending on the level of ambient light shining on it. As more light is applied to the sensor more current will flow from the board via the signal tab (S) to the microcontroller you connect the sensor to. If the sensor receives no light no current will flow through it. In typical indoor lighting you can expect a reliable 1V to 2V output giving you a steady baseline to trigger LEDs buzzers or other behaviors.Sewable E-Textile DesignLilyPad is a wearable e-textile technology developed by Leah Buechley and cooperatively designed by Leah and SparkFun. To ensure these components integrate seamlessly into your wardrobe (no pun intended) LilyPad relies on some specific hardware choices:Sewable Tabs: The LilyPad Light Sensor features three large conductive connection pads that let you stitch it directly into fabric with conductive thread.Low-Profile Build: Measuring just 20mm in outer diameter on a thin 0.8mm PCB this board lays perfectly flat against your garments.Washable Hardware: Built to withstand real-world use your finished clothing can be washed without damaging the electronics.By combining this analog light sensor with the wider variety of available LilyPad input power and LED boards you can easily build fully interactive fabric displays that react directly to the lighting around you.
